Old School Caucus Picks Next Sheriff

It’s been a crazy week.  I had a two-day jury trial which ended yesterday.  Meanwhile, we are in final rehearsals for Annie (first show tonight!)  The Governor’s situation is burning up the media attention.

In the middle of it all, we had a caucus on Tuesday night, July 23rd, at W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax to select the next Sheriff.  About 1,000 residents of Fairfax County and Fairfax City appeared to hear speeches from Stacey Kincaid and Mark Sites, who is the acting Sheriff (after the retirement of Stan Barry).

The two candidates were placed in the political equivalent of “the Octagon” — giving head-to-head speeches before the assembled voters in the high school auditorium.  Then the paper ballots were cast and counted by members of the Democratic committee.

They Caucus was relatively smooth, considering that all the voters had to fill out pledges and be verified.  In the end, Kincaid won the nomination by a little over two hundred votes.  Congratulations, Stacey!
