It was a gorgeous morning on Friday at George Mason University, where Angel Cabrera was sworn in as the new President.
Shedding the usual academic robes before the Patriot Center crowd, President Cabrera hit all the right notes. He stressed the IDEA of George Mason (Innovative, Diverse, Entrepeneurial, and Accessible) and the role of non-traditional students in building Mason’s identity. He talked about his own experience coming to the U.S. in 1991 as a Fulbright Scholar student (thereby squelching rumors that he was a basketball recruit for Bobby Cremins).
It was a bravura performance.
I got there a few minutes late. The ushers were very attentive and were promising to get me to the stage … thinking that I was “Milt Peterson,” successful developer (Fairfax Center, National Harbor) and major contributor to Mason. Uh, no. I ended up with a seat on the floor with everyone else. No worries!
