The Hills Are Alive (with the Sound of Music)

The City of Fairfax Theatre Company finished a successful first week of the “Sound of Music,” which is playing at Lanier Intermediate to packed houses.  I was there for  last night’s show.  Next show is Friday, July 30 at 8:00 p.m.

Great music and great story from Rodgers & Hammerstein.  Special kudos to the dancing orphans from the “Goatherd Dance” in Act I.  (One of my daughters was in the mix).

In the past few years, the CFTC has grown from a small group of amateurs to one with a regional audience and several talented performers, which has significantly raised the level of the show.

The success of the Theatre Company is an outgrowth of two policy decisions that the City made over 15 years ago.  The first was to locate the FCPS “Arts Academy” at Fairfax High School, thus bringing in surfeit of talented performers and teachers.  The second was the decision to build a concert stage at Lanier and then permit community groups to use it.

Incidentally, I’m a theatre dad and husband.  Very proud of the actors in our family.
