Yesterday Senator Chuck Colgan (D-Manassas) announced his candidacy for re-election to the State Senate. There are no guaranties in this life but his victory in November is pretty damn close. When you win nine elections in a row, you’re a good bet to make ten.
I’ve been honored to work with Chuck in the Senate over the past four years and you will not find a more respected man in Richmond. His word is trusted on both sides of the aisle. In fact, when the Lt. Governor missed our veto session back in 2009, Chuck presided over the Senate — and nobody challenged a single one of his rulings.
Chuck is the Senate’s President Pro Tem and Chair of the Finance Committee. Those are huge responsibilities, but he has managed it with the help of our staff. Although I’ve seen many of my bills shot down (and some passed) in Finance, I never failed to get a fair and courteous hearing from the Chair. At 84 years young, he’s not done yet.
(Note from Friday — William Wampler, R-Bristol, will not be coming back. He is ending his run after 24 years. William is the senior Repub on the Finance Committee, very smart on budget issues and an all-around good guy).
