VCU … Winning.

Has there even been mid-major conference in America better than the 2011 CAA?

As loyal readers know, we in central Fairfax stand loyal to the GMU Pats, the regular season winners.  Folks in Norfolk love the ODU Monarchs, the conference tournament champs.

But let us now sing the praises of the VCU Rams, who are going to the Final Four after a sensational 80-71 beat-down of the Kansas Jayhawks.  Along the way they won an amazing five straight NCAA tournament games.

I caught bits and pieces of the game this afternoon, while running around town.   Several of the commentators were expecting them to come back to the earth after a huge early lead.  But it didn’t happen.   The Rams stayed tough, the Jayhawks stayed cold, and a Final Four celebration is coming to the Fan.

As a downtown Richmnd institution, the campus is intrinsically related to the General Assembly.  We play basketball at the VCU gym.  We lift weights at their weight room.  The students serve as our interns during session.

VCU is our hometown campus when we’re in Richmond.

Today is their day.  And this will be their week as we root for them in the Final Four.

Go Rams!
