A great day to finish off 2010. I started off bike riding on the W&OD Trail with my son and his cousin visiting from Korea. We biked from the Town of Vienna to Hunter Mill Road and then back. Then got a frozen custard at Neilson’s on Church Street.
Tonight was the “Fairfax Four” race, a four-mile run starting from downtown Fairfax City and going up and around the campus of George Mason. At 6:30 p.m., the starting whistle sent about 1,500 runners took off into the darkness. Hard to see, but I could hear a random cow bell clanging as we ran past City Hall and up to the campus.
My legs got tired at the turn for Ox Road by the new Mason Inn. I dropped some time there but kept moving. I wanted to walk, but I stayed focused on that frosty draft waiting for me at The Old Firehouse in the City.
Coming home, I needed a 7:20 mile to break thirty minutes. Just missed it by four seconds, but that’s OK. It was the last race and the last effort for the year. Thank you to Pacers Running Store for organizing the race, which benefitted the Fairfax Police Youth Club.
Just got back from dinner with my parents who celebrated 48 years of marriage tonight. Love you Mom and Dad.
