Obama Speaks in Norfolk

Today the President appeared on behalf of the Democratic ticket at Old Dominion University in Norfolk.  Like most folks, I had to work today and couldn’t be there.

But it was good to have him here in Virginia.  No one else can “bring ‘em out” on Election Day like the current occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

In other news …

There’s no point in commenting on the latest rash in polls on the statewide races. The other blogs can do that.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been focused on the local Delegate races.  All one hundred seats are up on Tuesday.  There are a number of contested races in Fairfax County.  A few votes either way can make the difference.

Last weekend I was knocking on doors in the Folkstone and Dartmoor neighborhoods along West Ox Road  This weekend I’ll be hitting town homes in Burke.  Each represents the tip of the 34th Senate district.  And each is the site of a heavily contested race.

When I meet voters, I try to be friendly no matter the reaction.  I don’t expect everyone to vote for my candidate.  But it’s important to let them know I’m there for a friend.  Sometimes that alone makes an impression.

By the way, tomorrow my family will be in the annual “Halloween Parade” down Maple Avenue in Vienna.  Steps off at 7 p.m.  Get there early for a seat.  And don’t forget to give us a shout-out.
