Civil Discourse in October Debates

Over the past few weeks, I have been pitching in as a surrogate speaker for Mark Warner or Barack Obama.

Wednesday morning, I was at Oakton High School to represent Warner at a series of debates before the 12th grade Government classes.  My opponents were Bill Redpath, the Libertarian candidate, and Joe Odd, the Independent Green candidate.  Oddly, the representative for Republican Jim Gilmore failed to show.  I mean, who needs a political presence in Fairfax County anyway?

Thursday night, I spoke for Obama at a debate in Reston before the Hadassah service organization of Northern Virginia. (“Hadassah” is Hebrew for Esther, heroine of the Old Testament).  Delegate Tom Rust represented McCain.  We had a very good exchange over Middle East, health care and energy policy.

This weekend I’ll be hitting several community picnics and the “Vets for Obama” rally at City Hall in Fairfax.

Just a couple weeks to go …
