Graduation Day
Today, amidst the madness of my usual legal/legislative calendar, I took a break to attend two high school graduations -- James Madison and Oakton High Schools.
Processing in with the graduating seniors is always a thrill. It takes me back to my graduation from Fairfax High School in 1986. I was the senior class president and still remember the speech I gave. The premise was that we students should "never grow up." Guess that became a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Anyway, the student speakers at Oakton and Madison were great. So were the musical performances. I never cease to be impressed how talented our students are.
Graduating from high school is the end of an era. Public high school is one of the last social institutions that applies to everyone and treats them all equally. (in another generation, you could say the same about the Army).
Anyway, I'd go on and on ... but it's almost 11 pm and I'm going to bed after a long day.
