Fairfax City Welcomes New Council
OK, this week has been crazy. I've been in a week-long jury trial in Ellicott City, Maryland. Just concluded today, at least for my client.
In the meantime, Fairfax City had its municipal elections on Tuesday. About 2800 City residents voted, which is not quite a 25% turnout.
The City elected three newcomers to the Council: David Meyer, Steve Stombres and Dan Drummond. I know all three of these gentlemen and am pleased to see them take over the leadership of the City. We will be in good hands, I believe.
To the number crunchers, Steve and David tied for the #1 vote-getter spot (a great feat considering their newcomer status) and Dan finished about 300 votes back. Current members Gary Rasmussen, Jeff Greenfield and Joan Cross were also all re-elected.
One of the great things about the City is that all the campaign supporters gather at Old Town Hall to see the results. So we were all there to see the drama (only 70 votes separated the 6th thru 8th place finishers).
Afterwards, we all made speeches and then crossed the street to the Firehouse Grill to have a beer. Democracy!
Next week the smoke hopefully clears and I can post more regularly.

Correction, Chap. Steve and Dave tied for #1.
My bad. I made the correction.
