Time Out for Rugby

This weekend I traveled back to Williamstown, Mass. where I went to college.  I was there for the 50th anniversary of the Williams College Rugby Football Club, a motley group of which I was President in 1990.

Williams College is a small liberal arts school with a lot of bright and motivated kids.  Student-run groups, like the rugby club, flourished when I was there.  We played the top college teams in New England and won a lot of games.  Our arch-rival was Amherst and we would play them every year for shirts, i.e. the winning team took home the losing team's shirts.

In college, I played fullback (kind of like free safety) and loved it.

That was a few years back and my 40 yard time can now be measured by the sun.  However, it was great to be back on the pitch, running and tackling.  I played in two alumni matches and left it all out there.  Literally.

Anyway, my kids think I'm crazy.  So does my mother.  But when you're running in the open field -- who cares?
