Senator, Heckled by Lobbyists, Finishes Richmond 10K
Sharon and I ran the Monument Avenue 10K this a.m. down in Richmond. It was a cold, rainy day. There were some 30,000 runners along the Avenue and the staggered start times took at least an hour.
I slogged my way to the finish line in a little over 50 minutes. A slow time for me, but what the hell I'm 40 years old now. The compromising and rationalizing has already begun.
About halfway down Monument, I got a friendly "Hey Chap" shout-out from a Richmond lobbyist who recognized me from the sidewalk.
Otherwise, I ran in complete anonymity, which was pretty easy considering that I was flanked at various points by Darth Vader, Wonder Woman and a Tongan warrior in a loincloth (ed. note: colorful costumes are a tradition at the Monument Ave 10K).
Today I need to pull my notes together and then Sunday it's down to Wise for the energy conference. This should be very, very interesting -- especilly with all the furor surrounding the proposed 585 mw coal-fired plant.
I am meeting Evan Day of the Sierra Club down there so we should have plenty to talk about.
P.S. Tonight's game = go Caps!

Glad you are still running.
Remember: 40 is the new [insert younger age of your choice].
On the cool side: Now you are MASTERS runner. Doesn't that sound good, though, when you say it to your non-running friends? It says you have "arrived."
