Legislators Lose in Annual Roundball Classic

Last night, a motley crew of Delegates and Senators tried to defend the honor of the General Assembly on the floor of VCU’s Siegel Center.

In addition to myself, the ballers included Glenn Oder (R-Newport News), Ken Cuccinelli (R-Centreville), Emmett Hanger (R-Augusta), Chuck Nichols (D-Woodbridge), Terry Kilgore (R-Gate City) and Chris Jones (R-Suffolk).  We also had a number of legislative aides.

Our opponents were members of the Governor’s staff led by the always ruthless Larry Roberts.   It’s a legislative tradition that the two sides square off each year.

The game was close most the way.  We held a 29-26 lead at halftime.  Unfortunately, our defense fell apart in the second half and we ended up losing 73-65.

The Siegel Center is the home of the VCU Rams and a really great venue.  Too bad we couldn’t grab a win but we played hard and warmed up the court for the CAA tournament.

Bring on March Madness.
