Meeting Ralph Stanley

With all the politics going on this week, I forgot to mention the most exciting event of the week:  Wednesday, the General Assembly honored Ralph Stanley as its "Outstanding Virginian."

For those of you who don't know ...

Ralph Stanley is an absolute legend in the country music and bluegrass arena.  Fifty years ago, the Stanley Brothers created their own unique sound which came out of the hills of southwest Virginia.   Classics like "Gone Racing," "John Henry" and "Man of Constant Sorrow" are part of our music history.

For those of you who aren't familiar, I highly recommend that you invest $15 in a CD.  It will be on one of your favorite albums.  It's definitely one of mine.

Anyway, I had a chance to meet Dr. Stanley and shake his hand.
