It’s that time of year. Daffodils are blooming. It’s the Final Four in college hoops. Meanwhile, hysteria surrounds Virginia campaigns as they approach financial reporting deadlines.
Now campaigns need money all the time. There is always an invoice that must be paid or ad that must be purchased. However, the revenue is not constant. As a challenger, you have to work to raise it and without a deadline — “we need the check by Friday to count it” — it’s hard to impart a sense of urgency to your loyal donors. It’s human nature.
That is a preface to the fact that tomorrow (March 31st) is the reporting deadline for all state races, including my campaign for State Senate in the 34th District.
Thanks to the Sanchez Family, 10886 Mimosa Place in Oakton, we’ll be having a last-day fundraiser from 7-9 p.m. on March 31st to make sure we can maximize our funds “on hand.” All the former and current Democratic State Senators from Fairfax County have agreed to be sponsors for the event, so I’ll be in good company.
I’ve never “sold tickets” or required donations to attend my campaign events. Anyone who is interested is welcome. However, it is a fact that we need donations so I will be asking for financial help.
For those in the neighborhood, we hope to see you there. If you’re too far away (but would like to help) you can donate on-line at www.fairfaxsenator.com .
The campaign will not be won (or lost) on March 31st. However, we will find a way to fund it!
