Quiet Week

The first week of January is always a quiet week.  In our household, I took down the family Christmas tree, had a new suit fitted and shuttled my daughter to play practice for her role in “The King and I.”  One highlight was a jury case I tried last Wednesday.  I obtained a dismissal for my client after less than two hours, which is pretty unusual in my business.

On Wednesday, we sent out an email announcing my candidacy for the Democratic nomination for State Senate in the 34th District.  On Saturday morning, a few volunteers gathered to help us distribute literature in the Vienna/Oakton area.  Sunday night, I was honored to have a number of friends, including Jim Webb, Gerry Connolly and Leslie Byrne, attend a small kick-off reception at the Old Town Hall in Fairfax.

Here is the link to the speech last night by U.S. Senator Webb, and by yours truly.  The beautiful young girl at my side is my 8-year old daughter Eva Emmeline.  My younger daughter Mary Walton was below me trying to pull the microphone out of my hand.  Kids!

Back to work this week.  I am looking forward to the General Assembly session and seeing the positive ideas — Democratic or Republican — that come forward by way of legislation.  Stay tuned to this channel.
